STEAM Camps Frequently Asked Questions:
How to register? Please complete the online STEAM Camps registration form for each child. Few things to keep in mind:
- After clicking the “Submit” button, the form will take you to PayPal for payment. If you cancel or change your mind without payment, the system will delete your child’s registration from the system automatically.
- Please make sure to use the same email address in the registration form, and PayPal, failure to do so would make the system delete your child’s registration automatically since it has to match the payment and registration emails.
Do the school’s teachers run the STEAM camps? No, the Executive Director runs the camps with a group of new graduates and university students (at least 2nd year) in partnership with Canada Summer Jobs federal initiative to help provide Canada’s young adults with a chance to start acquiring meaningful work experiences (in line with Women In STEM, bridging BIPOC’s barriers to employment, immigrants exposure to the Canadian work environment, etc.) to explore the world of STEAM through concept-based daily projects and experiments (that do not repeat) with our campers. This year, 2023, we are fortunate to have a group of new graduates and students in BSc Physics, Biomedical, Engineering, Forensic Chemistry, Business Administration, etc. For more information about the Canada Summer Jobs Initiative, please follow this link: https://www.canada.ca/en/employment-social-development/services/funding.html
We believe that no one is more capable of performing our STEAM projects and experiments with our campers, than these brilliant young adults who are actively pursuing the field of STEM or STEAM in their careers, who have done research in this area, and who are passionate in pushing the boundaries of STEAM concepts/innovations.
My kids don’t attend the school, are they allowed to come? Of course, the school’s STEAM camps are for all the children in Calgary, regardless of whether they attend the school. This is our way of letting every child in Calgary experience the school.
How many kids are in the camp weekly? We allow a minimum of 10 and a maximum of 20 per group (STEAM Explorers 2-3 yrs old, STEAM Builders 4-7 yrs old, and STEAM Innovators 8-12 yrs old).
How do I know there are spots available? If the week of the camps you are looking at is still available to pick, spots are still available.
Do we get subsidies from Childcare (Ministry of Children Services) if our child/ren attend the camps? No, since the camps are a weekly program, not full-time.
